The Cornerstone Church Women’s Ministry Veteran’s Outreach Team provides assistance to Honoring Our Fallen (a 501c(3) non-profit dedicated to providing ongoing support to the families of fallen service personnel). Honoring Our Fallen begins a relationship with family members directly after notification of the death of their loved ones. They assist with the Transfer of Dignified Remains, funeral planning, and walk with the family through the most difficult time of their lives. Ongoing support includes bringing hope and healing by prayer, practical support (assisting with paperwork, housing, etc.), and group activities (weekend retreats for mothers and wives, monthly activities for children/families, remembering children on their birthdays and Christmas). The organization CEO, Laura Herzog, (a Cornerstone member) is truly the “hands and feet of Jesus” as she lovingly guides each family through the grieving process.
Honoring Our Fallen recently erected a Memorial Wall at Rosie The Riveter Park in Long Beach. The wall is inscribed with the names of over 6000 service personnel who have died while serving our country since 9/11/2001 and provides a place where families can come to remember their loved ones.
The Cornerstone Women’s Ministry offers support in various ways: praying for the families and organization, collecting articles (soap, shampoo, hygiene items) for retreat “pamper bags,” staffing the booth at the Memorial Day Toy Drive, helping to finance the Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day flag placement at the Riverside VA Memorial Park and assisting with office duties when requested. The Women’s Ministry Veteran Outreach Team is very open to exploring additional areas of service to our veterans where we help them to feel the love of Jesus!
